30. September – From Bisbane to Melbourne

Today, we have to move on. We pack our things at Daniela’s, our homestay host. She is from Rumania and is living in Australia since 20 years.

Our staying was agreeavle – we thank her und drive to the airport.

It was a nice flight with Tiger Air (the cheap arm of Virgin Australia) and we can see again the Brisbane river from above, as it meanders through the city.

In Melbourne, however, winter hits us. It is really cold, about 12 °C.

Again we take up a rented car – however, our GPS (an app on Wendelin’s mobile) is not connecting with the satelite. After a while we manage and drive through the night westwards, to Ballarat. Here, we booked a room in the „Sovereign Hotel“ which also manages the YHA – that’s where we booked a double room. The hectic lady at the reception leads us through the widely ramified buildings – and directs us to a room that has not been tidied up.

Our reclamation leads to a real surplus: we get a super family room, freshly renovated, with a brillant bathroom and a very comfortable huge bed (plus two bunk beds for 4 children – this we don’t need at the moment).

Then we intensively search for some food. The GPS sends us in cooperation with Google through half of the town (without result). We ended up at a Spanish bar that served indeed delicious pulpo a la plancha.

Reconciled with Ballarat …
