This morning, we took our tent down and left the nice campground at Lake Eacham in order to drive to Granite Gorge. On the way, we stopped at the little town of Yungaburra. There is a trail along a creek, called „Peterson-Creek“, where you are supposed to be able to see the rare and famous Platypus. Unfortunately, none of the nocturnal animals showed up – but we got a nice shot of a turtle.
The campground at Granite Gorge is rather simple, so more dense bushes or trees, but has good amenities. In the Granite-Gorge there are heaps of rock wallabies, hopping around and begging for food (they are used to tourists). We didn’t buy food – as we went in, just a group if Japanese people arrived and occupied the wallabies. A lot of female wallabies have a young one („Joey“) in their poach.
We walk on – a spectacular site and trail, mostly hopping from rock to rock and this with sandals …. Huge granite blocks and bolders form the inner part of the gorge which is about 1.2 km long.
In the evening, Annette is cooking in the small kitchen a wonderful meal, potatoes (from Mareeba), Zucchini and tomato-cheese sauce.
Before, we watched the sunset from a rock with a beer and wallabies around us – what a nice place and scenery.
Tomorrow, we will move on, probably to the North around Mossman.
